Meticulous Demands realized for Chanel Fashion Shows
Our journey with Atelier Devineau began with the grand visions of Chanel fashion shows, where large-format printing met the meticulous demands of Karl Lagerfeld. This foundation paved the way for our collaboration that later have led to dozens of projects together, among other things to the Carmen opera first shown at the Rouen Normandy Opera.
The Big Image-Devineau partnership is reassuring and certainly gives us a competitive advantage. We are masters in the field of decors, and Big Image is recognized worldwide for the quality of its printing. The result is a solid trust from our customers.
For the Carmen opera project, we chose cotton as our canvas, honoring the traditions of hand-painted theatre backdrops. The fabric's flexibility and tactile quality made it the perfect medium. The drawings were meticulously scanned by Atelier Devineau, who worked closely with set designer Antoine Fontaine throughout the project to refine his detailed drawings, ensuring every nuance was captured. Big Image handled the printing, after which Atelier Devineau's artists, still in close collaboration with Fontaine, breathed life into the visuals with hand-painted touches, adding depth and realism that traditional methods alone could not achieve.
From Vision to Stage, Crafting Carmen’s World
Atelier Devineau sought to elevate the visual experience of their productions, meeting high-quality demands within tighter timeframes. The world of decoration and printing is intimately intertwined, and in the project for a Carmen opera, the backdrops needed to be nothing short of perfection. It was imperative that the scenery not only support but also amplify the drama and beauty of the performance.

The grand opening night was a pivotal moment, where the backdrops had to flawlessly align with the vision of the set designer, Antoine Fontaine, capturing the essence of the story and immersing the audience in the opera's world. Combining traditional artistry with modern technology was key to achieving this goal.
Big Image is the one and only capable of producing very large sizes. They are open to all types of printing experiences and eagerly explore new materials and creative solutions. It's clear that Big Image is the ideal partner for testing, researching, and exploring new means of expression on flexible media in connection with set design.
From Rouen to Hong Kong
The final result was a visual symphony that resonated with audiences and critics alike. The Carmen opera, performed at the Rouen Normandy Opera, will soon grace the stages of the Opéra Royal de Versailles, in Hong Kong, and in Dallas, a testament to our successful collaboration.
Big Image's dedication to quality and their ability to meet our tight deadlines have made them an invaluable partner. The Carmen project showcased the perfect blend of our artistic visions, resulting in breathtaking scenery that truly enhances the performance.
