Big Image Creates the World’s Largest AI-Image
We’re used to AI living inside our screens – but what happens when it steps out into the real world? Big Image has taken that leap. In collaboration with The Beach, an indoor beach volleyball arena just outside Stockholm, they created a 50x10 meter AI-generated image – likely the largest of its kind ever produced in physical form.
The vision was to create a lifelike beach scene at sunset. But The Beach couldn’t find a photograph that truly captured the right atmosphere, and commissioning a custom shoot wasn’t on the table. That’s when Big Image proposed a different solution: to use AI tools to generate a tailor-made image, designed specifically for their unique space.
"We knew the feeling we wanted to achieve – we just didn’t know how to get there. The idea of using AI to create the scene felt exciting, and we couldn’t be happier with the result," says David Cabrera, CEO and founder of The Beach.
The image was created using generative AI, combined with traditional image editing techniques. While AI-generated imagery is now widely accessible, turning a digital vision into a real-life, wall-sized image on a 50-meter scale presents both artistic and technical challenges.
"Scaling an AI image to 50 meters isn’t just about resolution, it’s about interpretation. It takes an eye for light, composition, and emotion, along with expertise in both new technology and traditional craftsmanship. You have to understand how the image will feel in the actual room," says Amanda Crabo, AI Lead at Big Image.
Using AI tools alone wouldn’t have been enough. Thanks to their deep knowledge of visual storytelling, color precision, large-format printing, and material science, Big Image was able to bridge the gap from screen to space – and, in doing so, create what is likely the world’s largest AI-generated image.
