Big Image in Germany Switches to 100% Green Electricity
As of April 1, 2025, all operations at Big Image’s Berlin studio are powered by certified renewable electricity—a shift that significantly reduces the studio’s carbon footprint and supports the company’s broader sustainability goals.
The change marks a key milestone in Big Image’s continued efforts to reduce the environmental impact of its production. From powering equipment to lighting the space, every kilowatt now comes from renewable sources. The switch reflects a wider strategy to make more responsible choices across all stages of production and at every company location.
Why It Matters
By transitioning from traditional energy to renewable electricity, Big Image expects to reduce emissions in the Berlin studio by approximately 95%. This shift to certified green electricity dramatically cuts carbon dioxide equivalent (CO₂e)—a standard measure that captures the combined impact of different greenhouse gases—helping the company move closer to its long-term environmental goals.
“Changing to green electricity isn’t just about reducing numbers—it’s about reflecting our values in everything we do. This is one of many steps on our way toward more responsible production.”
– Charlotte Schwarzmeier, CEO, Big Image DE
Looking Ahead
The move to green electricity is one of several actions Big Image is taking to lower emissions and operate more sustainably. While the switch brings immediate environmental benefits, it also supports long-term energy goals across the company.
In Sweden, Big Image has been running on certified renewable electricity for 15 years. Extending the same approach to Germany has been a more complex process—but the transition in the Potsdam studio marks important progress. Looking forward, the studio also plans to shift to green gas, further reducing its reliance on fossil-based energy. This, along with ongoing efforts to minimize waste, use sustainable materials, and improve production efficiency, reinforces Big Image’s commitment to responsible practices—from concept to finished image.
